Aisleyne Makes the News

26 August 2009

Following Channel 4's announcement on August 26th that they would be dropping Big Brother after BB11 in 2010, Aisleyne was asked to appear on both Sky News and BBC News to give her reaction and opinions.

First she recorded an interview for Sky News, who also had soundbites from other BB luminaries such as Shilpa Shetty, Nick Bateman and Brian Dowling. Aisleyne said that this year it had become monotonous. "Everyone just goes on the show wanting to be famous and to be admired", she said.

While still on her way home after recording this, she was asked by the BBC to appear live on their News Channel's E24 Entertainment segment that evening.

Appearing alongside the News of the World's Dan Wootton, she suggested that dropping live feed was a possible cause of the decline in media attention. She went on to argue that the show wasn't dead, and that she still enjoyed watching and writing about it, but that it needed a "jump start, perhaps with a new production team with some fresh ideas, and fewer 'wannabes' who were only looking for fame".

She also made the rather novel, if tongue-in-cheek, suggestion that they should put 10 bankers in the house!

Her comments prompted a question about her own media aspirations when she appeared on BB7. She replied that while she had hoped to to gain something from the exposure, she had certainly not expected that three years later she would still be in the industry.

Aisleyne was in fact so much in demand, that because of the timing of her BBC appearance, she had to turn down both a request from Sky News for a further TV appearance that evening, AND a press interview with the Sun newspaper.

She did of course make some further comments on this matter in her daily blog for Reveal magazine, which was also picked up and quoted in the media.
