On today's radio show, Aisleyne mentioned joining her friend, Lisa Connell, in taking part in a charity run for Brain Tumour UK.

Here are the pages for donations...

It's working now.

Here's a link to the latest Brain Tumour UK newsletter, so you can find out more about the charity (Lisa gets a mention on page 5)...

Here's more info on the run itself...

If I lived in London I would without a doubt attempt to go on this run...well, I dont know if I could run all the way as I would,nt say I was THAT fit..however, even if I ended up walking or whatever, I would have probably enjoyed it and for such a good cause as well....I love walking as a rule anyway.... but to all those close by if they are going to give it a go...good luck....we need to keep reminders going and find out if anyone off the forum lives nearby and is considering doing this charity run/walk?

I'm just bumping up this thread so Aisleyne can see that we've got this link on the site (and also to remind people to donate). It's also linked to on pretty much all of the radio show stories in the TV & Radio section of the website (just updated after today's show).

I think its brilliant that Ash is doing the run.
Me and Sophie are thinking of going to London, to do the run. We really want to go, and help as much as we can. Hopefully we will be there on the 1st July....fingers crossed xxxx

Did you catch the details that Lisa mentioned on the show? There was a phone number/email address for Anne Smith, who you have to contact for inclusion in the run. It's on here...

maringo - 16/3/2007 03:28 It's working now.

Thanks, missed that update.

Tried http://www.justgiving.com/lisaconnell just now:

"The system cannot find the path specified."

www.justgiving.com says:

"We're currently undertaking some essential monthly site maintenance. Our techies are working as fast as they can and we'll be back very soon.
Thanks for your patience."

FFS, I haven't got any patience
I want to unload my modest contribution NOW - or else I'll forget again.

Please delay this run until I've sponsored - Thanks!

If someone can bump this thread down, then up again when it's fixed, I'd be grateful. Failing that (or, maybe better?) if an Admin could PM me when it's back ...

Thanks

I've just thought up a cunning scheme (if anyone else's interested)
If you make a donation to Lisa, right (Aisleyne's BEST EVER MATE, right), Lisa'll keep rabbitting on to Ash about how ACE x-&-x-&-x-&-x are and, eventually, Ash'll give in and think - you know what, Lis', you're right - I love these people even more because they're so warm & fuzzy that I want to invite them all round for Xmas dinner n'stuff with us two, round about my birthday time and, y'know, maybe make it a regular thing every year when I've become international.

On the other hand - "money can't by me love".
Perhaps there are micro-exceptions to this law?
(I'm being silly, of course?)

^^ WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT, THEN?

I have a confession. I have yet to give to any of these charities. Call me a doddery old sod or a right thicko, but I have a bit of a problem with this method of payment. I would have given to all of the Aisleyne charity causes. I felt really bad for not supporting Sophie's walk. It wasn't that I didn't want to give. I can't get round the idea of my bank details being passed to different people, not that I've got that much to lose. If there was any other way of getting the money to it's destination, I'd do it, even if it meant taking it myself. One day, I will move into the 21st century.

The way I look at it is, whenever you give someone a cheque you're handing them a bit of paper with your name, bank account number, sort code and signature all handily written down for them to make use of.

Paying by credit card to a secure internet site is actually a lot more safe IMO.

Also Justgiving use the Securecode system (might not be the right name) where before the transaction is authorised, the card company give you a codeword so you know it is a genuine site, and you then enter a password to OK the payment.

I've just sponsored Aisleyne. C'mon everybody dig deep and lets get the total into 3 figures.

Maybe a link to the donations page from the home page of the site might help?

OA has now added a News item about Aisleyne's charity run...

http://www.aisleyne.com/minifullnews.asp?dismode=article&artid=104

He'll keep it on the home page until July 1st.

I've also merged all the three threads on the charity run (mine, odm's and malmo58's) into one, so that all the info is together on this thread.

Aisleyne could have easily walked 10k around Glastonbury this weekend. Good exercise in the fresh air, me thinks.

I've just logged onto MySpace and seen this bulletin from Aisleyne's site...

Date 27 Jun 2007 9:03
Subject Sponsor me and do your bit for charity
Body: Hi Guys,

As you may know on Sunday (1st July) I am running 10k in the London 10k run to raise as much money as I can for Brain Tumour UK.

The charity is really close to my heart and I want to help make a difference to people suffering from Brain Tumours and help raise awareness for such a great cause.

So, I am asking you all to dig deep into your pockets and visit www.justgiving.com/aislyenehw and sponsor me for sunday. Every penny counts so please please please give as little or as much as possible!

Wish me luck...

Ash xxx

Here's the news from http://www.thebritish10klondon.co.uk/

BRITISH 10K 2007 IS GREAT SUCCESS!

Over 20,000 runners took part in the 2007 British 10K London Run this morning. The race was won by Stephano Baldini of Italy, in a time of 29 mins and 27 secs. Second place was taken by UK runner Phil Wicks, in a time of 29.33, and third place was secured by Simon Tonui of Kenya, in a time of 30.35.

The first female runner was Hilda Kibet of the Netherlands, in 10th place, with a time of 32.34. Second female was taken by Catherine Ndereba of Kenya, last year's top female, in 15th place with a time of 33.11. Third female was Banuela Katesigwa of Tanzinia, in 30th place with a time of 35.31.

Congratulations to the winners, all the individual entrants, and the many thousands who ran for worthy causes. Check back soon to enter the 2008 race!

Reading through this thread and, more particularly Aisleyne's post about it in the Hi Ash thread, I notice an important piece of information missing. As it's an indicator of what a true friend Aisleyne can be, I hope she won't mind me posting it here.

What Ash didn't mention is that her pal Lisa was rather overcome, both physically and emotionally, after completing the run.

Aisleyne was actually supposed to be a VIP guest at the Princes' Charity Concert at Wembley that afternoon/evening. (I'd prefer not to post who Aisleyne told me she was supposed to be sitting next to). In the circumstances, Ash decided not to go but to stay and keep Lisa company for the remainder of the day.
